The McKinney Public Library believes young adult patrons are an integral part of our community. By participating on Library’s Teen Advisory Board (TAB), you can ensure that your voice will be heard and will improve teen services and young adult opportunities at the Library.
Must be a student in grades 7-12.
Own a McKinney Public Library card (all Collin County residents may obtain a free McKinney Public Library Card. Children under 17 will have to have a parent present to receive card.)
Attend TAB meetings (At least 6 meetings during the school year.)
Commit to a minimum of one hour per month to the TAB meeting. Meetings will be held: 5-6 p.m. each Monday at the Roy & Helen Hall Library
5-6 p.m. each Tuesday at the John & Judy Gay Library
Commit to participate for an entire school year.
Assist with or attend at least one TAB library activity for teens or youth.
Tasks and Duties
Aid in planning teen programs through brainstorming, marketing, publicity, setting up and other library related activities.
Suggest books, CDs, movies and magazines for the Young Adult Collection.
Review and publicize the library's teen activities to peers.
Create and submit articles and book reviews for teen website (two per academic year).
Maintain Young Adult Displays (bulletin board/display case).
Shelf-read books to make sure they are in order.
Exercise leadership skills
Letters of recommendation and referral letters for job searches
Credit for volunteer hours that may be reported to your needs at school
Completing an application is the first step to Teen Advisory Board membership, but does not guarantee membership. Applicants will be notified within two weeks of submission about their membership. Contact Teen Librarian, Abby Stapp, at 972-547-2033 with questions.
