Get Involved!

When it comes to keeping our city beautiful and Unique by Nature, every little bit helps. The Stormwater Program offers many opportunities for residents to get involved and help keep our creeks and streams flowing clear.

Education & Outreach

The City of McKinney offers presentations about stormwater pollution for any age group.

Household Hazardous Waste

  • Household Hazardous Waste Collection (HHW) occurs on your regular trash and recycling collection day. For residents of McKinney, there is no additional fee for this service. Commercial waste will not be accepted at any time.

Doo the Right Thing Pledge

  • Pledge to pick up your pet waste and properly dispose of it in a trash can or by flushing it down the toilet.
  • By pledging to pick up your pet’s waste at least once a week, you help keep bacteria and other contaminants from entering the stormwater.
  • Completed pledges can be mailed to: NCTCOG E&D, P.O. Box 5888, Arlington TX, 76005

Cleanup Programs

  • The City of McKinney hosts several community cleanup days throughout the year including Texas Trash Off and Trinity Trash Bash.
  • Thanks to help from Volunteer McKinney, residents can volunteer any time of the year to help collect litter along the roadside, in neighborhoods, in parks and from the waterways.

Proper Yard Care Tips

  • Leaves, grass clippings, soil, fertilizer, pesticides and other yard waste that is not properly collected can run off into storm drains during a rain event. These pollutants can harm or kill aquatic life.
  • There are simple steps that can be taken to ensure that yard waste is properly disposed of.

S.W.I.M- Stormwater Inlet Marking

  • One of the requirements of McKinney’s Stormwater Permit is marking of water inlets, and this can be accomplished with the help of residents.
  • Residents can volunteer and earn service hours toward scout badges, green cards, and other organization requirements.

Become a Volunteer Water Quality Monitor!

  • Join the Texas Stream Team and help monitor McKinney’s waterways. Volunteers help provide important data on water pH, temperature, dissolved oxygen and other water quality factors.
