Mosquito-Borne Illness


A mosquito-borne illness is spread by a mosquito bite and in some cases, by bodily fluids of an infected person. During summer and fall in Texas, we see an increased number of mosquitos and mosquito-borne illness cases.

West Nile


West Nile is the most common mosquito-borne illness in Texas and is believed to be a seasonal epidemic in the summer and fall. For more information on West Nile, please visit the CDC’s website. Zika Virus


Zika virus is another mosquito-borne illness with a growing number of cases in Texas. Zika may cause serious side effects to the fetus of an infected woman.
