Road Construction Updates
Several intersections and roads are now under construction to help alleviate traffic congestion around McKinney. All completion dates and timelines are projected and could change.
Northbound U.S. 75 Exit Ramp to Eldorado Parkway Closed (North Texas Tollway Authority)
Starting July 10, 2010, crews working with the North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA) closed the northbound U.S. 75 exit ramp to Eldorado Parkway for approximately two months. This work is necessary to allow crews to complete the remainder of the new U.S. 75 alignment north of the SRT.
During the closure, northbound U.S. 75 motorists wishing to access Eldorado Parkway will be rerouted to exit at Ridgeview Drive, an exit about 2 miles earlier than they have in the past. After exiting at Ridgeview, motorists will follow the marked detour route and take the U.S. 75 frontage road/Spur 399 to Medical Center Drive, where they will make a U-turn and continue back west on Spur 399 to the northbound U.S. 75 frontage road and Eldorado Parkway.
Northeast-bound SRT traffic wishing to access northbound U.S. 75 will use the existing loop ramp. The loop ramp will take traffic to the northbound U.S. 75 frontage road, where traffic may enter the northbound U.S. 75 main lanes via an existing entrance ramp just north of Eldorado Parkway.
All detour routes are clearly marked with signs, and electronic message boards have been placed along the roadway(s) to notify drivers about the closures.

All traffic on U.S. 75 (Central Expressway) within the Sam Rayburn Tollway interchange project limits in Collin County will move to the northbound side of the highway starting late Friday, Aug. 27.
Recently, all traffic on U.S. 75 near the SRT interchange has been located on the southbound side of the highway. During the upcoming traffic switch, all traffic near the interchange will be relocated to the northbound side of U.S. 75. In addition, the southbound U.S. 75 exit to Ridgeview Drive in Allen will be relocated approximately 1½ miles north of its current location.
This change in traffic patterns will allow crews to complete work critical to the completion of the new SRT/U.S. 75 interchange, including the reconstruction of the southbound U.S. 75 main lanes in that area and the completion of the new direct-connector ramps that will link SRT and U.S. 75.
The change in traffic patterns will occur in two phases:
- Beginning at 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 27, northbound U.S. 75 (Central Expressway) traffic will be rerouted to the northbound side of the highway within the SRT/U.S. 75 project limits in Allen, Fairview and McKinney.
- Starting at 9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 28, crews will relocate southbound U.S. 75 motorists within the SRT/U.S. 75 project limits so that their lanes of traffic are switched onto the northbound side of the highway. At this time, the southbound U.S. 75 exit to Ridgeview Drive in Allen will be relocated approximately 1½ miles north of its current location. Southbound U.S. 75 motorists wishing to access Ridgeview Drive will take the SRT/SH 121 exit just south of Eldorado Parkway in McKinney. These motorists will take the frontage road to Hardin Boulevard, make a U-turn and continue on the frontage roads until reaching Ridgeview Drive.
- The traffic shift will be complete – and all traffic within the interchange project limits will be located on the northbound side of U.S. 75 – by 8 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 29.
While all traffic will be located on the northbound side of U.S. 75, motorists will still have two lanes of travel on U.S. 75 in both directions. The traffic switch also means that motorists will be moved onto new, smooth pavement, making the drive through that area more enjoyable for travelers. In addition, the permanent northbound U.S. 75 exit to Eldorado Parkway is expected to re-open in mid-to-late September 2010.
This traffic pattern will continue through the end of 2010, when traffic on U.S. 75 will be rerouted into its final configuration.

U.S. 75 at U.S. 380 project overview
(Texas Department of Transportation)
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) continues to make progress on the construction of the interchange of U.S. 75 at U.S. 380. The reconstruction project is scheduled for completion by Feb. 2011.
TxDOT will rebuild U.S. 75 as an eight-lane freeway from White Avenue to Taylor-Burk Drive, frontage roads will be widened to three lanes with turn lanes, and U.S. 380 will be widened to eight lanes under U.S. 75.
TxDOT closed the southbound U.S. 75 exit ramp to U.S. 380, lasting until spring 2010. Use the Wilmeth Road exit for the duration of the closure.
The southbound frontage road traffic has been moved to the two lanes recently completed.

Custer Road
This project includes the widening of Custer Road (F.M.2478) from Stonebridge Drive to University Drive (U.S. 380). When complete, Custer Road will be six lanes for the majority of the corridor.
The construction project is a joint venture with funds from the City of McKinney, Collin County, TxDOT and the federal government, though TxDOT will lead the project. Roadway construction began in Aug. 2009 and is anticipated to be completed in June 2012.
For updates, visit the TxDOT Web site or call 972-542-2345.
Ridge Road
This $6 million project is for the completion of Ridge Road from Creekside Drive to U.S. 380. It will extend the existing 4-lane roadway to U.S. 380 and provide a new signal at U.S. 380, an enclosed storm sewer system, a 12-inch water main and street lighting.
The completion in early Aug. 2010 will preced the proposed opening of the new McClure Elementary School.
