Employment Requirements
Minimum Requirements
- Be 18 years of age
- Have a high school diploma or GED
- Successfully complete all pre-employment testing
- Be currently certified as a Firefighter/Paramedic OR Firefighter/EMT (Texas Commission on Fire Protection and Texas Department of State Health Services). Please check the TCFP and TDSHS websites for certification requirements - both require applications & fees. Out-of-state applicants should be certified as a Firefighter in their State with the ability to become Texas-state-certified and should be Nationally Registered as an EMT or EMT-P
- Have a valid Texas Class B driver's license within 60 days of hire, a good driving record and the ability to maintain a good driving record while employed.
Driving Requirements
Firefighter/Paramedic positions require the operation of City of McKinney vehicles or motorized equipment. You are not eligible for hire if:
- Your driver's license is currently under suspension or revocation
- You are not able to obtain a valid Class B Texas Drivers license
- Your driving record contains three or more moving violations or two at-fault vehicle accidents within the past two years.
- You have been convicted within the past three years of any of the following:
- DUI (Driving Under the Influence)
- DWI (Driving While Intoxicated), or other chemical substance-related driving
- Hit and Run
- Failure to Stop and Render Aid at the scene of an accident
- Failure to disclose Identification (I.D.) at the scene of an accident
- Negligent manslaughter involving a motor vehicle within the past three years.
