Volunteering
The McKinney Public Library System welcomes volunteers 14 years of age or older in the Volunteer program. Volunteers will be interviewed and provided with an orientation and training. McKinney Volunteer Policy requires criminal background checks on volunteers aged 18 or older. Interested individuals should contact Elfi Roberts at 972 547-7336 or email: eroberts@mckinneytexas.org . Volunteers Make the Difference…
Children’s Storytime needs adult volunteers for our programs on Monday and Tuesdays at the Roy and Helen Hall Library from 10:15 to 11:15 beginning September 13 through December 9.
We also need adult volunteers for the NEW programs at the John and Judy Gay Library on Thursdays from 10:00 to 11:00 and 11:00 to 12:00.

Volunteer Opportunities
Adopt A Shelf Program:
Adopt a section of shelves to maintain in correct alphabetical or Dewey Decimal order. Shelves need to be checked and straightened each week at the volunteer's convenience.
After School Program:
Assist with the After School program doing crafts & coordinating activities.
Genealogy Assistants:
Assist with indexing newspapers from microfilm. Must be able to read from microfilm and write clearly.
One-Time Projects:
On occasion volunteers are needed for one-time events or projects.
Story Time:
Story Time consists of short programs using books, a flannel board story, finger plays, rhymes, and simple songs. Help is needed Mondays and Tuesdays at the Royal and Helen Hall Library, 10:00 - 11:45, and Thursdays at the John and Judy Gay Library, 10:00 - 12:00.
Family Story Time:
Bilingual volunteer preferred to translate stories into Spanish. Mondays 7:00 - 7:30 p.m.
Language Classes:
To be determined.
Magazine Exchange:
Assist people with magazines, keep magazines in order, and sort magazines as they arrive.
