Free, Safe and Anonymous Disposal
The City of McKinney, in partnership with the Collin County Sheriff’s Office, participates in the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Nationwide Drug Take-Back event twice per year. At the Drug Take-Back event, participants can safely dispose of all accumulated expired, unwanted and unused prescription drugs. The service is free and anonymous. You do not have to be a resident of McKinney to participate.
Needles, EpiPens and sharps are not accepted. Visit this link for disposal options and instructions for these items.
Participants may dispose of medication in its original container or by removing the medication from its container and disposing of it directly into the disposal box. If an original container is submitted, the individual should remove any identifying information from the prescription label.
All solid dosage pharmaceutical product and liquids in consumer containers may be dropped off. Intravenous solutions, injectable substances and syringes will not be accepted due to potential hazards posed by blood-borne pathogens.
Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse and abuse. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet.
